President John Dramani Mahama has urged Muslims to let their prayers serve as a shield to protect Ghana from divisiveness and as a catalyst for national peace and prosperity.

Delivering the message on his behalf, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Member of the Council of State, said President Mahama was seeking the continuous intercession of Muslims for the safety of Ghana’s borders, the unity of its people, and the stability of governance, particularly as the nation approaches upcoming political cycles.

“Let your prayers be the shield to protect Ghana from the divisiveness that has plagued other nations. I am seeking your prayers and continuous intercession for the peace of our nation,” he said.

The call was made during the 15th Annual Night of Power in the month of Ramadan, organised by the Muslim Caucus of Parliament on Tuesday night, under the auspices of Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

The event was held under the theme: “The Night that Changes Destiny: Ghana’s Prayer for Peace, Progress and Prosperity.” President Mahama said the theme resonated deeply with Ghana’s aspirations for harmony and progress, expressing optimism that Allah would “rewrite the destiny of the nation by turning challenges into opportunities and anxieties into hope."

He also urged Muslims to pray for peace in the sub-region and the Middle East, noting that conflicts in those areas could disrupt global supply chains and derail Ghana’s economic gains.

Recalling policies implemented by his administration to ease the pilgrimage to Mecca, President Mahama assured the public of his government’s commitment to completing the Hajj Village in Accra to facilitate seamless travel for pilgrims.

Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, spokesperson of the National Chief Imam, led the congregation in prayers for the nation, the president, the vice president, the speaker of parliament, and the chief justice.

The Annual Night of Power has become a significant fixture in Ghana’s religious calendar, bringing together Muslim leaders and faithful to pray for the peace, progress, and prosperity of the nation.
