A heavy rainstorm has struck the Savannah Regional capital of Damongo, killing one person and causing havoc to homes and shops, among others.
The disaster, which occurred on Wednesday night, claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl, who, together with her elder brother, were running home when a roofing sheet from one of the affected buildings fell and cut her on the neck, causing her to bleed to death.

A family member of deceased Karim Salifu expressed regret for allowing the deceased outside the house at that hour, leading to her death.
"It's very painful and irresponsible on our part to have allowed little children outside at that time because I believe that if she was home, what befell her, would have been avoided," Mr Salifu admitted.

The ten-minute storm hit hard on the business and several communities.

The greater part of the building housing the Damongo branch of the Volta River Authority [VRA] was badly hit with all computers of the company soaked in water.
A nearby pharmacy and other shops were also affected.

At the time of filing this report, officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) say they were still taking stock of the destruction and could not confirm the extent of the damage caused.
