The Ejura Sekyedumase MP, Bawa Braimah Mohammed, is urging government to immediately take action on the Ministerial committee of enquiry tasked to probe the violence in Ejura that led to the killing of two and the injury of others.
The Kingsley Koomson Committee has since presented its report to Interior Minister Ambrose Dery for study and implementation, but two weeks after submission, the report has not been made public, nor has any action been taken.
The MP said the families of those who died and others who were maimed are anxious.
"I am marvelled as to why the Committee's report has not been made public because I believe the reason why the Committee held its sittings in public is to be transparent. And for the committee's report to be kept on the shelf for close to one month worries everybody, especially the people of Ejura.
"We are as a matter of urgency calling on the Interior Minister to publicise the report and then also to ensure that the recommendations, although not far-reaching, are fully implemented."
The Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, set up a three-member committee to inquire into the sequence of events, crowd rioting, and crowd control methods used by security personnel in Ejura in the Ashanti Region will commence public hearings Tuesday, July 6, 2021.
The Committee comprises a Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice George Kingsley Koomson as the Chairman, Security Analyst, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, and the Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Juliet Amoah.
It was given 10 to submit its report but asked for one more week to extensively deal with the event as it had to call more witnesses and examine the evidence before it.
The Committee was expected to submit its report to the government at the end of its work two weeks ago.
However, the report is yet to be made public.
According to the MP, the snippets of the report he has seen tells him that the Committee's recommendations are not far-reaching enough.
There have been media reports that the committee recommended the dismissal of the MCE, Mohammed Salisu Bamba, who is believed to have handled the situation poorly, resulting in two deaths after riots were sparked by the death of activist Ibrahim Mohammed of Ejura in the Ashanti Region.
The MCE has withdrawn his application to be retained as Municipal Chief Executive of the area since the disturbance.
According to the chairman of the Committee, George Kingsley Koomson, the Committee, during its hearings, treated the matter with all seriousness to ensure it provides substantial recommendations to the government.
