Road crashes have killed nine people from January 2022 until now in the Bono region.
The Bono Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Stephen Tenkorang, disclosed this during a road safety sensitisation programme on Wenchi-based Radio West Africa.
He said 12 road accidents have been recorded during the same period.
“In all four commercial buses, five private cars and six motorcycles got involved in the various road crashes and further resulted in in 14 injuries,” Superintendent Tenkorang explained.
The Bono Regional MTTD Commander further stated five road accident deaths were recorded in Sunyani while Wenchi recorded four deaths out of road crashes.

He mentioned wrongful overtaken, overspeeding, fatigue, disregard for road traffic regulations as well as alcoholism, and the use of hard drugs, among others, contributing to road crashes across the region.
“If we are recording such figures so early in the year, then it should be a source of worry to everyone, and we must do something about it as a society,” Superintendent Tenkorang added.
For his part, a research fellow with the National Road Safety Authority in the Bono region, Gabriel Okyere, said it is a collective responsibility to reduce road accidents within the region.
He re-echoed the need to dualise roads in the region, Police and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) officials to enforce road traffic regulations.
Mr Okyere urged Ghanaians to stop hacking on pedestrians walkways to prevent congestion on major roads.
