Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has urged the Black Stars to rise to the occasion as they prepare for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mali on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Minister visited the team’s camp on Friday in what he described as a morale-boosting engagement. Addressing the players and technical team, he acknowledged the disappointment of the draw against Chad but expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to respond positively.
“I know what you’re capable of. There’s no better team than you. You have the talent, the passion, and the opportunity to turn this around,” he said.
Mr Adams added that his mission was not to criticise, but to listen, understand, and support the team in their quest for qualification.
The players and technical staff assured the Minister that lessons had been learned from the Chad game.
Head coach Otto Addo reiterated that the focus remains firmly on qualification. He noted the advantage of playing on a natural grass pitch at the Accra Sports Stadium and expressed belief that the team will respond strongly against Mali.
A senior player also voiced the squad’s determination, stating: “We know what went wrong, and we are determined to correct it. The win is coming.”
The Ministry said the visit reflects its broader commitment not only to resourcing national teams but also to standing by them during challenging moments.
With qualification at stake, the Black Stars will be looking to redeem themselves in front of home fans on Monday.
