The Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, says the company is ready to deploy 5G services in the country but is awaiting clarity on how spectrum for the technology will be allocated.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, she explained that the telecom operator is prepared to roll out the next generation of mobile connectivity once the necessary spectrum becomes available.
According to her, Telecel Ghana is hopeful that the process for allocating the spectrum will be transparent and competitive to allow all telecom operators to participate fairly.
“We are ready for 5G,” she said, adding that the industry is waiting to see what spectrum will be made available for operators.
She expressed the expectation that the spectrum allocation would be done through an open auction system, which would enable telecom companies to compete on equal terms for the frequencies required to deploy the technology.
Mrs. Obo-Nai noted that such a competitive process would help ensure fairness in the market and support the growth of the telecommunications sector.
5G technology is expected to significantly improve mobile internet speeds, reduce latency and support emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, smart devices and advanced digital services.
Telecel Ghana is one of the major telecommunications operators in the country, providing mobile, broadband and digital services to millions of customers across Ghana.
