The MP for Ningo-Prampram has said the reported violence at some polling stations of the governing party's parliamentary primaries was expected.
Sam George said the tradition of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is characterised by violence and little could be done to stop the phenomenon in the ongoing primaries.
"It is the tradition of the NPP, there is little you can do to stop the violence. However we just hope the violence is minimal" he said.
Speaking to Samson Anyenini on Newsfile Saturday, he alleged some security personnel are serving as delegates in the NPP primaries when such people have no place in politicking. This situation Mr George indicated will taint Ghana's democracy.
"We are hearing disturbing reports of members serving in our security services, BNI officers, army officers and police officers being delegates in the NPP Primaries and voting. That is unheard of." the legislator alleged.
A total of 374 aspirants are contesting in 168 constituencies. 67 of the aspirants are contesting unopposed and would be acclaimed by delegates of the party in the various constituencies.
A few hours into the process, there has been violence at voting centres with some aspirants and delegates sustaining wounds.
It was a free for all fight in Bantama constituency as delegates suspected to be security operatives were blocked from voting.
An agent of NPP Parliamentary aspirant in Effiduase-Asokore was also arrested for obstructing a voter.
On the eve of the primaries, President Akufo-Addo warned party members not to fail the Ghanaian people and urged delegates to uphold the principles and ideals of the NPP.
But the Ningo-Prampram MP said, "We just hope that the NPP is minded to make sure that whatever violence and skirmishes; they reduce the bloodshed and damage to public properties."
