Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee of Parliament, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, says the Ministry of Youth and Sports will account for the missing amount from Ghana's World Cup prize money.
Earlier this month, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), per JoySports sources, told its membership it received $7.9m from FIFA after the Black Stars participated in the World Cup in Qatar, and communicated the same to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and, by extension, government.
Ghana was expected to receive a total of $9 million from their participation in the tournament as publicised by FIFA.
With Joy Sports' checks raising a bit of concern, Woyome has assured Ghanaians the remaining $1.1 million will be accounted for.
"We are that some transfers have happened in terms of the prize money from FIFA. It was a matter we raised at the committee," he said in Parliament.
"The Minister has assured us that we will be forthcoming with the details of it in terms of liaising with the FA so that we will see what actually came.
"The report in the media can be put to proper perspective There will be the need for us to understand how much money was transferred, how much is coming to the ministry and how the ministry intends spending it."
The Black Stars played three games in Qatar, winning one against South Korea and losing the other two against Portugal and Uruguay.
