Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the 2024 Presidential candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reminded politicians of the fundamental purpose of seeking power – to ensure the prosperity and well-being of the people.
Speaking at the Presidential Election Peace Pact signing ceremony organised by the National Peace Council, Dr Bawumia emphasized the need for all stakeholders, including security agencies and the media, to work collaboratively towards maintaining peace and stability in the country.
As the first candidate to address the gathering, Dr Bawumia expressed his confidence that Ghana would successfully conduct its 9th general election, highlighting the country's commitment to democratic processes and peaceful elections.
He stressed that the collective responsibility of all parties involved is vital to ensuring a credible and peaceful election, which would further strengthen Ghana’s democratic credentials.
“I am full of hope that all of us leaders and our followers will live up to the peace pact we’re going to sign today and I encourage the security agencies who are doing an excellent job and the media and all stakeholders to do all they can to ensure and preserve the peace."
“I would like to end by emphasizing that the only reason we seek power is to use it to deliver prosperity to the people of this country. I therefore wholeheartedly pledge my commitment to working within the rules and to collaborate with all to ensure a peaceful election,” Dr Bawumia asserted.
