A video-focused report from a questionable news source on an alleged “bear pit” incident has been making the rounds.

Per the New York Post, citing the oft-sourced-in-tabloid-stories East2West News, the footage in question has been said to have originated from Tashkent Zoo in Uzbekistan. The clip, which has also been shared by China’s state-owned news outlet Shanghai Media and covered by British tabloid The Sun, is alleged to show a three-year-old girl being dropped into the bear’s area by her mother.

The bear, at least according to the Post report, then allegedly “sniffs’ the child before ultimately walking away. Zoo staff then allegedly helped move the girl, who is said to have suffered a concussion in connection with the fall. Now, reports have alleged that the girl’s mother is facing an attempted murder charge due to the incident.

Additional info on these alleged developments, aside from the same report revealing that the bear in question’s name is Zuzu, has not been included in the ensuing news coverage. As for bear-focused stories of the more verifiable variety, last year saw much attention being paid to viral footage of a teenager protecting her pets from a bear in California.
