World Vision Ghana has commissioned a health facility in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region to reduce morbidity, mortality and to improve access to quality health care in the area.
Pregnant women in the communities in the District have had to take long and bumpy rides on tricycle motors and motor bikes to access health care.
Commissioning the facility at Maudaso, where the facility is located, National Director of World Vision Ghana, Dickens Thunde, indicated it was their expectation that the Health Centre, apart from bringing health services closer to households, will also enhance the most productive use of the time of patrons.

The Community members, he added, will no longer have to travel long distances to seek health care while children will live a healthy life and have more time to go to school.
“Pregnant women in these communities will no longer have to take long and bumpy rides on a tricycle motors or motor bikes to access health care,” he explained.
The health centre commissioned and handed over costs GHČĽ 472,351.77.

The cost covers the construction of the Health Centre, the accommodation block and the procurement of medical and non-medical equipment to fully furnish the facility.
National Director of World Vision Ghana, Dickens Thunde, says the gesture demonstrates World Vision’s bias for the well-being of children and the fully equipped Health Centre is an ample demonstration of World Vision Ghana and partners’ collective commitment to improve health outcomes for all Ghanaians.
He indicated, investing in the health of women and children does not only curb preventable deaths but also serves as an economic investment adding, it is because the health of every citizen in the Ghanaian community is paramount to the development of that community.
“It shows our commitment to improving the health and nutrition of women and children in the areas in which we work,” he stated.

Dickens Thunde says promoting good health in communities across the country calls for the commitment of all stakeholders, including community members and duty bearers, to mobilize and manage financial resources prudently.
Consequently, he added that the success of this Health Centre is rooted in community participation and ownership.
“Therefore, I strongly urge all community members to be actively involved in the utilization and maintenance of the facility. Your community health officers will only be able to deliver quality services if they have access to adequate resources to keep the health centre running” he said.

He urged users and managers of the facility to manage the resources very well, provide the highest quality services their patrons deserve and ensure that these health services remain available and accessible to all over time.
“World Vision is committed to working with the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service to ensure that universal health coverage is achieved by 2030,” he noted.
Mr. Thunde celebrated the very strong collaboration between World Vision Ghana, Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, Traditional Leaders (Chiefs and Elders), Faith Based Organisations, Civil Society Organisations, Assembly Members and community members of the Upper Denkyira West District.
