Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis Xavier-Sosu, was overcome with emotion during an interview on the sidelines of the Evening of Reflections and Memorial for the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash.
The distraught MP struggled to hold back tears as he spoke about the profound loss, highlighting the dedication and service of the deceased to Ghana.
His emotional reaction underscored the sombre atmosphere at the Forecourt of the State House, where the event was held as part of the three-day national mourning period declared by President John Mahama.
The ceremony honoured Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former Obuasi East NDC Parliamentary Candidate Samuel Aboagye, NDC Vice Chairman and former Kumasi Mayor Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and three Ghana Air Force crew members - Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The victims were en route to Obuasi for a national assignment when their helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The tragedy has triggered an outpouring of grief across the country, with political leaders, civil society, and the international community sending messages of condolence.
The state funeral for the victims will be held on August 15 at Black Star Square.
