President John Dramani Mahama has once again praised Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President of Ghana, for his early concession following the recent election results.
President Mahama in his remarks at his inauguration as Ghana's next President, commended Dr Bawumia for his role in easing tensions in the country.
According to President Mahama, Bawumia’s prompt acceptance of the electoral outcome helped foster a sense of peace and stability.
"Your early concession was not only a demonstration of your statesmanship but also an act that contributed immensely to reducing tensions across the nation," President Mahama said.
He further noted that this gesture was vital in maintaining Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
The President emphasised that such leadership qualities were essential for the continued growth and unity of the country.
“In times of political contest, it is easy for tempers to flare, but your decision to concede swiftly helped guide us through a critical period in Ghana’s democratic journey,” he added. Mahama expressed his gratitude for Bawumia’s exemplary conduct during a time of national uncertainty.
Dr Bawumia, now the former Vice President, was widely praised for his statesmanlike conduct, which contributed to the peaceful transition of power.
President Mahama concluded his speech by urging all political leaders to continue prioritising the well-being of the nation above personal or party interests. "May Ghana's democracy remain a shining example for the world," he said.
