The two-day nationwide cleanup exercise in Greater Accra will begin from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm each day in the following seven flood-affected regions from Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11, 2026, with authorities targeting the removal of refuse, clearing of choked drains and the restoration of public spaces.
According to a government statement, Friday's clean-up exercise will involve Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs), public and private institutions, security services, educational institutions, waste management companies and the general public.
On Saturday, July 11, the focus will shift to communities and residents in the affected areas, with community groups, volunteers, security services, MMDAs, waste management companies and the general public expected to participate.
The government has directed that shops, markets, commercial establishments, corporate organisations and other non-essential businesses within the seven flood- affected regions remain closed from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm on both days to allow for full participation.
Institutions providing essential and emergency services have been exempted from the clean-up exercise.
The Ministry is urging residents, businesses, transport operators, traditional authorities, religious organisations and other stakeholders to cooperate fully and actively participate in this exercise as government works to restore clean and safe communities after the floods.
