Minister in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has described calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal as “unfortunate,” adding that it would be a “tragic mistake” should it happen ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Otto guided the team to five wins in their final six World Cup qualifiers to secure qualification for the competition.
The 50-year-old is the first Ghanaian to lead the senior national team to back-to-back World Cup qualifications, having done so for the 2022 edition.
However, concerns continue to grow about his ability to lead the team on the global stage, having failed to secure a spot at December's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
"I believe that these calls are a little bit unfortunate and are misplaced,” Felix said on the floor of Parliament.
“The man who has guided us to this qualification in stellar fashion is best placed to prepare the team for the competition itself.”
"It will be a tragic mistake to dismiss the coach and hire a new person who will have very little time to prepare the team.”
Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku has already publicly declared Otto Addo as the coach to lead the nation to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, slated for June next year.
Meanwhile, the draw for the global showpiece is set for December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will learn their group-stage opponents.
Before that, Otto Addo is expected to lead the team on an Asian tour in November, where they will play friendly matches against Japan and South Korea.
