The Bono East Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng has revealed that a total of 641 health workers representing twenty-seven percent of the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases recorded in the region, are health workers.
The situation according to health authority is worrying.
Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng in an interview with Joy News explained that “in all, we have recorded more than 2,400 cases and the number of health workers are about 641 so you can look at the percentage, it is way above the national average of somewhere 0.7%”.
“This is something we have to be worried about considering the fact that health authorities are supposed to know better with regards to the adherence to the safety protocols,” he added.
He however noted that “the good news is that we’ve not lost any health worker through Covid. We are lucky that we do not have health care givers with severer cases and that attest to the fact that the adherence protocols and the early testing amongst us are good because someway somehow, the health workers are doing good as compared to the general population”.
He again added that “as a means of improving the situation, we have heightened awareness among health professionals and we have seen improvements over the past few months”.
Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng however charged the general public to continue adhering to the laid down protocols as outlined by the Ghana Health Services.
The region currently has a total of 181 active cases with 7 severe cases and 2 persons in critical conditions.
