The maiden Western region edition of the Ghana Journalist Association( GJA) awards came off with Ina-Thalia Quansah being crowned “The Most Promising Young Journalist of the Year.”
The awardee, who reports for JoyNews (brand of The Multimedia Group) in the region, also won the “Rural Reporter of the Year” and General News Reporter of the Year” to become the only journalist who took home more than one award at the ceremony held at Takoradi on Saturday.
The event themed “Redefining corporate social responsibility; Moving from handout to Legacy projects, the role of the gatekeeper” was to award excellence in media journalism in the Western region.
Organisers of the event invited entries from practitioners across the region.
Winners were selected from only 18 successful entries in each category, including education and health reporting.
Ina-Thalia Quansah won “The Rural Reporter of the Year” with her story “Telephone connectivity at Assemkrom.”
Her excellent reporting on the missing Takoradi girls, which gained both national and international prominence won her the “Most Promising Young Journalist of the Year” award.
