Ghana‘s road traffic regulations frown on the use of motor and tricycles for commercial passenger transport.
Regulations 128 (1), (2) and (3) of the Legislative Instrument 2180 of the 1992 constitution prohibits the use of motorcycles or tricycles for commercial purposes.
The emergence of cargo tricycles known in parts of Ghana as ‘Aboboyaa’, and rickshaws, popularly known as ‘MahamaCamboo,’ or ‘pragya’, appears to have taken Ghanaians by storm.
The reckless impunity of riders, some of them unlicensed, in the name of employment, has added to the carnage on the roads.
Nana Asenso Mensah, in this Hotline documentary, walks us through the economic benefits of motorbikes and tricycles and the danger they pose to life and property.
