The Energy Minister, John-Peter Amewu, has condemned in no uncertain terms violent incidents that occurred at some voter’s registration centres in the Hohoe Constituency of the Volta Region.
According to him, such incidents only aggravate tensions and put the electoral process in a negative light.
He made these comments when he acquired his voter’s identification card at the Roman Catholic Primary Cluster 3 registration centre in Hohoe.
Pockets of violence have been reported since the beginning of the new voters’ registration process raising concerns about the security situation at some centres across the country including Hohoe.
Mr Amewu who is also the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant for the constituency, said it is in the interest of all residents to maintain peace and calm ahead of the 2020 elections.
He, therefore, implored sympathisers of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to refrain from electoral violence, as it has the tendency of denting the hard-earned reputation of Ghana.
"Sometimes tensions rise but that should not degenerate into any form of violence... I want to put it on record that i don't promote violence, I am a man of the people. And I want these people alive so that they can exercise their vote for me."
