Traders who were affected by Thursday’s fire outbreak at the Sekondi Landing Beach in the Western Region are appealing for help to resuscitate their business.
In an interview with JoyNews, the victims said they have lost most of their investment to the inferno.
According to them, they have taken huge loans from various financial institutions to revive their business after the Covid-19 pandemic and are now in limbo as to how they would repay their debt.
"By the time we got here, the fire had destroyed all my wares. I couldn't even save one," a victim cried.
The Western Regional Correspondent, Ina-Thalia Quansah on Joy FM’s Midday Friday reported that about 15 shops owners who trade in fishing gears have lost all of their property.
She added that some of them have threatened to commit suicide following the unfortunate incident.
“Already, one of the traders who was three months pregnant has had a miscarriage after hearing news of the incident because she has gone for ¢100 million loan,” she revealed.
Meanwhile, the MP for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer says investigations will be carried out to prevent a reoccurrence of the incident.
