Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has accused the leadership of the football governing body of gagging members from expressing divergent views.

"I hear Yakubu Abdul Salam (President of New Edubiase) made a comment on your sister station, Asempa FM (alleging that his player, Adams Salim has been frozen out of the Black Satellites because he campaigned for him in the 2019 FA elections) and people called to threaten him," the defeated 2019 GFA Presidential candidate told Joy News.

Media allegations of nepotism in the Black Satellites team went viral following the national U-20 team poor performance against Cote d'Ivoire and Niger.

The leadership of the football association were accused of twisting the arms of the technical team to select players who belong to the FA executives or those affiliated to members of the FA topmost decision-making body.

Yakubu Abdul Salam, who spoke on public radio, had his life threatened and cursed by people believed to be aficionados of the current administration.

Afriyie claims, these are attempts to prevent others from expressing their displeasure at happenings within football management.

"When Abdul Salam called to tell me people were sending him threatening messages, cursing him, I asked, where from this? Have we gotten to a point where nobody can speak his mind?," he quizzed.

Defending the position of members expressing their opinions on Kurt's way of managing Ghana football, Afriyie said even Kurt, now President of the GFA, despite occupying a place on the then Executive Committee, now Executive Council questioned coaches decisions not invite his players to the national team.

"The current sitting FA President, publicly questioned why his player has not been called to the national team. My friend Ameenu Shadow publicly condemned Coaches tactics. So, where have we gotten to that nobody can question anything in football? No one can speak freely?"

Mr Afriyie alleged that his player, Osman Haji, travelled from Wa to the Satellites camp and was sent home with the reason he arrived at a time the team finished with testing of players for COVID-19.

"Karim Zito first invited 140 players," he began

"Some Division One clubs were making noise that, their players were not given a look in, so he decided to extend invitation to all the clubs to select a player each to join the camp.

"Assistant coach of the satellites called my club for us to give them one player. I directed them to contact my coach and not any of the administrators.

"They selected one player, Osman Haji. Do you know that the boy travelled all the way from Wa and got to the camp, they told him that they are done with COVID-19 testing so he should go back? Guess what I told my team when they called? I said we should forget it because even if we have a player in the team for weeks, they will sack him because he is George Afriyie.

"They didn't believe me, sent him to the camp, and they sent him back. Did you hear us complain about this? So, they should stop the threats because Salam didn't speak from the vacuum. What I told you, happened in Ghana," he stated.

The Black Satellites won the WAFU Zone B Cup of Nations after a 2-1 over Burkina Faso.
