2020 Independent Parliamentary candidate for Asokwa constituency says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot accept incumbent Fomena MP back into the party but reject others.
"We heard a lot of conversations that transpired between Honourable Asiamah, the independent candidate who won at Fomena. They are pleading with him to come and join the party in Parliament.
"We saw on social media that those of us going as independent candidates, they have expelled us from the party. But now that our brother, God being so good has won, you can't accept Asiamah and leave the rest of us," Mr. Eric Osei said.
Speaking to JoyNews' correspondent Prince Appiah, Eric Osei was insistent that he is a member of the party and voting for President Akufo-Addo in the 2020 general elections solidifies his membership.
According to him, there is no need to reapply to the party when he is already a member.
"We all worked in the interest of the party with our resources to campaign for the President (Akufo-Addo). I voted for the President so I'm an NPP member."
Mr Eric Osei is of the view that the decision of the NPP to expel him among many others is just "political talk."
Fomena MP Andrew Asiamah maintained his unfeigned allegiance to the NPP despite his expulsion from the party after deciding to run as an Independent candidate in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
"The issue regarding what side I join has been discussed already. I have said it time without number that I am a member of the NPP by blood. There is nothing that can change that," he said.
Meanwhile, Eric Osei is unperturbed by his loss in the Parliamentary elections. He is happy with the number of votes garnered, according to him.
"I don't see this as a defeat because if I was able to poll 1405 votes within NPP's stronghold, I think I am okay with the votes I secured. I won't say I have lost. The people of Asokwa decided on whom to represent them. I respect their decision," he added.
Furthermore, he disclosed that his fight to ensure development reaches Asokwa constituency will not stop because of his defeat.
"We need to come together. My focus now is to ensure that Asokwa is developed. I will not relent my efforts in pursuing that agenda. I will make sure that Asokwa is developed," he noted.
Eric Osei lost the Asokwa Parliamentary seat to incumbent MP Patricia Appiagyei.
