Motorists who ply the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR)-Kpone road are lamenting the poor state of the stretch which connects the Tema Harbour to Kpone.
Roads Minister, Kwesi Amoako-Atta in August last year cut sod for the reconstruction of the roads in 24 months, but eight months on, the project is yet to take off.
According to users of the road, mostly fuel tankers and heavy-duty vehicle drivers, the nature of the road is impeding productivity.
Some of the drivers who had their cars broken down, as a result, spoke to JoyNews reporter, Manuel Koranteng, asking government to fix the roads immediately.
“My name is Ekow and I work on the Kpone road. The spring of my car is broken because of the deplorable state of the road. I have to find a way to fix the broken spring to my car because I don’t have money to buy a new one. The road is terribly bad and we need it fixed,” he explained.
Another Tanker driver also said that the road was a big issue.
In the year 2020, Minister of Roads and Highways, Amoako Atta cut sod for the rehabilitation of the 7.2 kilometer Tema Industrial Area to Kpone link road.
He said an existing single carriageway collector road would be widened to a 2×2 dual carriageway with improved drainage systems.
He added that the first two kilometers within the heavy industrial zone would have a concrete surface while the remaining five would be asphaltic.
Even to this end, road users are yet to see tangible progress on the said road.
