The National Security Ministry as part of highlighting threats to the nation’s security has also proffered solutions to prevent the country from taking after volatile neighbours.
A new National Security strategy report indicated that unemployment, chieftaincy disputes, perceived injustice are but a few of the domestic threats if not tackled would plunge the nation into civil disturbance.
In light of this, a 4-tier strategy to nip the threats were also given.
The document cited intolerance, governance failure to provide basic social amenities to underprivileged communities, perception of injustice, party political rivalry and crime as major threats to the country’s peace.
According to the report, these drivers tend to manifest threats such as civil disturbance, chieftaincy disputes, ethnic and political unrest; violent extremism, armed banditry and kidnapping, to mention a few.
It further enumerated various stages through with the Ministry is expected to approach these threats and ensure that a resolution is reached.
The first stage urges government to enforce the law and ensure justice while providing internal security, preventing or combating violent-extremism and terrorism and protecting the use of cyberspace.
The next stage seeks to address threats that are potentially looming and require constant monitoring through early warning mechanisms.
The third stage is to promote good relations and cooperation with the ECOWAS, AU and the UN, and adhere to conventions, protocols, charters and declarations.
Finally, the government is being urged to beef it security capabilities while nurturing the necessary international cooperation to enhance Ghana’s ability to respond to global threats including pandemics.
