The Ghana Police service says it is offering psychological help to Josephine Panyin Mensah, the woman who went missing while she was allegedly 9 months pregnant.
Speaking on JoyNews Today on the JoyNews channel, the Acting Director General of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Kwesi Ofori, explained that the well being of the victim, who is now being treated as a suspect in a conspiracy case, is being put first.
However, this support doesn't exonerate her from criminal investigations.
"In addition to we offering her medical care at the Axim Government hospital, we've also supported her from our Department of counselling at the Headquarters with clinical psychologists to support her...giving her psychological support does not prevent the Police from still looking into criminal aspects of the case" he said.
He further stated that the Police Service will ensure that the appropriate things are done for the truth to be established
Josephine Panyin Mensah is said to have gone missing on the 16th of September while 9 months pregnant.
She appeared on the 21st of September without a pregnancy or a baby.
According to a Police statement, she "was never pregnant within the period under review following thorough medical examination by the medical doctors at Axim Government Hospital".
Her husband, family and colleagues dispute the report insisting she was pregnant.
The Police Service says it will engage the community to explain the medical processes involved in arriving at the conclusion that she was not pregnant and court their support in unraveling the case.
