Rapper Captain Planet of defunct music group 4x4 has weighed in on the arrest of fellow musicians Shatta Wale and Medikal.

He said the arrest and remand of Shatta Wale and Medikal into police custody has been a blessing to the industry, even though it appeared to be in bad taste.

He shared these thoughts on Joy Entertainment’s Daybreak Hitz on Hitz 103.9 FM.

“This is a lesson for everyone in the industry to learn. They were set as an example, but it’s also a blessing for all of us to learn something from what happened,” he opined.

Captain Planet, officially known as Sylvanus Dodji Jeoffrey, admitted that it is normal for entertainers to create hype before releasing their new works.

However, the hype's extent and impact must be considered because the “people look up to us… and negative hype can give you a bad reputation”.

He briefly lamented how the industry has successfully birthed the perception that only negative hype sells.

He also advised prophets to review their methods of prophesying.

He believes prophets should reach out to artists in private rather than the public approach, which creates an unnecessary buzz that causes fear and panic.

However, he has pleaded with the Ghana Police Service to be lenient with first-time offenders and advised colleagues to be mindful of their actions.

To the police, he said, “they should invite first-time offenders and educate them on some unlawful practices instead of just remanding them into police custody. The law is the law, but the remand was too harsh”.

To his fellow artists, he cautioned, “we have to be very careful…the law is now coming for offenders”.

Asked if he will desist from creating hype, Captain Planet said, “I will continue to create hype, but I will be mindful because the negatives we put out return to haunt us later”.
