The group stage draw of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League has been conducted on Monday at the CAF headquarters in Cairo.
Defending champions, Wydad Club Athletic, will begin their title defence in Group A alongside Angola’s Petro de Luanda. Wydad of Morocco were in Group D with the Angolan side last season.
Algeria’s JS Kabylie and AS Vita of DR Congo are the other two teams in the group.
Record champions, Al Ahly SC, will battle South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, in Group B. The Egyptian powerhouse was pitted in the same group with the ‘Brazilians' last season, losing in both legs to Sundowns.
Sudanese side, Al Hilal Omdurman and Coton Sport of Cameroon will complete Group B.
Three-time winners, Raja Club Athletic, are housed in Group C which also contains Horoya of Guinea, Tanzania giants Simba SC and Uganda’s Vipers SC.
Group D has Esperance of Tunisia, Egyptian champions Zamalek, CR Belouizdad and Sudanese outfit Al Merrikh.
The 2022/23 CAF Champions League group stage is scheduled to start on February 10, 2023, and conclude on April 1.
