The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has extended the deadline for the payment of membership dues to March 10, 2023.

The earlier expiration date was on January 15, 2023.

“Pursuant to articles 8(a)(v) and 12(b) of the GJA Constitution 2004, I, on behalf of the National Executive of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), served notice to all members of the WA, on December 14, 2022, to pay their membership dues for the year 2022 by the close of January 15, 2023.

"However, the National Executive of the GJA has decided to extend the notice for payment of membership dues to March 10, 2023, and 1, hereby, serve notice of same to all members,” GJA noted in a statement to the press.

The GJA added that "after the expiration of this extension of notice, on March 10, 2023, the list of members in good standing for the year 2022 shall be closed."

They, therefore, cautioned members to make payments as the GJA constitution demands.

Article 8(a)(v) provides: "The National Executive shall publish the names of members of the Association in good standing by the end of the first quarter of each year after giving due notice of thirty (30) calendar days".

"Article 12(b) also provides: "Any member who does not pay membership dues by the end of the financial year, and fails to pay after 30 days notice by the General Secretary shall lose his/her membership, subject to re-application".

Meanwhile, the National Executive has also extended the moratorium granted to members who have not paid their membership dues for a year or more and may have lost their membership status as stipulated in Article 12(b), to clear their arrears by March 10, 2023, in order to regularise their membership status.

According to the GJA, members who wish to make payment should lodge such payments into the "GJA bank account detailed hereby: BANK: National Investment Bank / BRANCH: Osu / ACCOUNT NAME: Ghana Journalists Association / ACCOUNT NUMBER: 1112037799401, after which the pay-in slip may be presented to the Accountant at the GJA Secretariat for receipt covering payment."

"Members may also pay the dues directly at the Accounts Office at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra and collect receipt after payment."

Per Article 9 of the GJA Constitution, "members who have paid their dues regularly for the past 10 years and are 65 years and above" are exempted from payment of dues.
