Two Americans visiting Ghana for the first time have shared what they expected to see and experience when their airplane landed at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
According to the duo, this was their first time visiting any country in Africa and expected to see some wild animals like lions, tigers and cobras everywhere.
However, this expectation was not met.
Speaking on Accra-based 3FM, the visitors admitted that they had unconsciously accepted the misconception being painted about the continent in the media.
“I’ve been getting text messages since my visit from my friends asking me ‘Have you seen a lion yet?’ So when you grow up in America and you don’t go out there and see the world it’s so easy for you to think the outside world doesn’t really exist.
“So when I got here, it was a culture shock,” one said.
Despite the misconception, the other noted that his visitation has taught him certain life-changing lessons. “I’ve seen people hard at work at all times. And back at home, most of us take things for granted,” he said.
