Ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in May, Frank Pedro Asare, one of the aspirants for the Sefwi Wiawso seat is charging delegates to rally behind his campaign for victory in 2024.
The party, he says needs a unifier, one who is broadly accepted by all minor factions in the constituency and who can wrestle the seat from the New Patriotic Party’s Kweku Afriyie.
The seat, he said, is not a battleground but an NDC stronghold—the NDC having held on to it since 1992 and only surrendering it to the NPP in 2016.
The NDC’s best chance at retrieving the seat, Mr. Asare argued, would be to present a candidate well known to the people.
“Having worked for the party for the past 17 years, I have that relation with all the factions that if I am on the ticket, everyone would be willing to come on board and work for victory,” he told JOYNEWS’ Kojo Yankson on The Pulse on Wednesday.
Mr. Asare, who is a member of the National Communications Team of the NDC and has held multiple positions in the party, including the Constituency Youth Organizer in Sefwi Wiawso believes he has paid his dues and will be rewarded for his loyalty.
“Loyalty to the party counts…and at the end of the day, should I become the parliamentary candidate, others are watching and would take cue that for the NDC, when you work for the party, a time will come when they will reward you,” he said, adding that it would push the youth to work for the party.
Mr. Asare also promised to leverage on his position if elected as MP to lobby for jobs for his constituents and also help in setting up scholarship schemes to help brilliant but needy students in Sefwi Wiawso.
