Although he had initially attributed financial constraint to not releasing his ‘African Connection’ album, Okyeame Kwame has disclosed the real impediment to the making of the project.
He said in an interview on Joy Prime that he did not like the production of the album and that because he wanted to have an excellent piece of work, he decided to rest the project and work on it later.
“Maybe I was just blaming the economy. Maybe the recording didn’t go as well as I imagined.
The way I envisaged it, the production I did wasn’t that good,” he noted.
Okyeame noted that he wasn’t proud of what he had done and blamed it on finances because travelling to other countries to work on some of the recordings required financial muscle.
He, however, stated that he would repackage the alvum and release later.
“I think maybe some of the songs are obsolete. We did features from Senegal, some from Ethiopia. Some of the artistes don’t even have the same vibe now. But I think that I will release it,” he told the host Kwame Dadzie.
The rapper said he worked with the AU at the time as an Ambassador for the African Union My Voice campaign and expected them to help in supporting the ‘African Connection’ album.
“When I came up with the idea, I was speaking to them that the African connection album will be an AU project so I pushed to a point and then they couldn’t come through therefore I moved my attention to other things,” he further noted.
In 2014, Okyeame Kwame announced that he was going to release an album that focuses on the African continent.
Even though he project did not see the light of day, he did a Ghana version of it with his ‘Made in Ghana’ album which presented stories from the former ten regions in Ghana.
The ‘Made in Ghana’ album featured artistes who come from all the various regions: Kwame Eugene, KiDi, Atongo Zimba, Wiyaala, Wutah Afriyie, Abiana, among others.
