The National Democratic Congress' (NDC) Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, is not enthused with the outcome of the Kumawu by-election in the Ashanti Region.
As the counting of the poll nears its end, it appears that his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is facing a potential loss, with the candidate from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently leading.
Provisional results from the Ashanti Region show the NPP candidate, Ernest Yaw Anim is garnering more votes than his competitors.
Expressing his concern on Twitter, Rockson Dafeamekpor lamented his party's position in the race and raised important questions about the internal dynamics within the NDC.
The Kumawu results have poured in quick & fast. I was part of the Ashanti Reg Reorganization Project in 2022 but these Kumawu Votes shows we’ve to re-Audit our Register & Branch Executives. We’ve 9 Executives but has 3 & 4 Votes in some branches so where are our 9 Ndc Executives?

He tweeted, "The Kumawu results have poured in quick & fast. I was part of the Ashanti Reg Reorganization Project in 2022, but these Kumawu Votes show we have to re-Audit our Register & Branch Executives. We have 9 Executives, but we have only 3 & 4 Votes in some branches. So where are our 9 NDC Executives?"
Rockson's tweet highlights the need for the NDC to critically evaluate and assess their party's structure and processes, particularly regarding the voter register and the effectiveness of their branch executives.
The polls so far have been largely peaceful, watched by a heavy police team, with the NPP and NDC deploying high-level officials as polling officials.
Kumawu has 34,800 registered voters, however poll watchers say turnout in by-elections are generally below par.
The NDC had vowed to capture the seat, made vacant following the death of the NPP’s Philip Basoah, from the NPP which has always won it since 2000.
