Four hundred and twenty-five individuals including three foreign nationals suspected to be engaging in cyber-crimes through the use of loan applications have been apprehended by the authorities.
The arrest was made in Accra in a collaborative effort between the Bank of Ghana (BoG), the Cyber Crime Authority, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
The collaborating institutions launched a swoop in the early hours of Monday, July 10, 2023, as part of a joint cyber security committee operations to clamp down unlicensed digital loan application platforms.
Making this revelation at a joint press conference on Wednesday, the Executive Director of EOCO said the operation would be sustained to make the country's cyberspace safe.
According to him, items retrieved during the swoop include 654 mobile phones, 22 laptops, about 800 SIM cards, internet routers and other valuable information of credential value.
The suspects will soon be put before the court.
Meanwhile, EOCO has cautioned the public to desist from having any form of engagement with unlicensed financial entities who ply their trade online.
