Renowned sound engineer, music producer and founder of Highly Spiritual Music, David Kojo Kyei, better known as Kaywa, has explained why he needed to spill out everything concerning the departure of Lasmid from his label.

He said it was necessary to voice out the secret due to reactions from Lasmid’s fan base, which were trying to tarnish the reputation of his record label.

Kaywa who spoke in an exclusive interview on Joy Prime’s morning show, Prime Morning, had previously indicated that he is always ready to speak out about issues that seeks to destroy the record label.

"Usually, because the artistes are the ones in front, they turn to have a fan base who do not understand how the artiste was built, whatever happened to him, and the team behind them. So, I had to put the information out so that everybody could talk. Anything that will destroy the label, I’ll put it out because the label is like a bedrock where a lot of stars and talents will emanate from. You can attack me, and I won’t talk, but the moment you attack the label, I won’t allow it," he told Roselyn Felli on Wednesday.

A few weeks ago, Kaywa, while on a media tour to promote his new signees on his label, disclosed some secrets behind the exit of Lasmid from his record label.

During the particular interview with KMJ on Prime Morning, the Highly Spiritual boss stated that he needed to have a contract with Lasmid because there was none since the musician was handed over to him by the organisers of MTN Hitmaker as part of his prize package after winning Season 8 of the music contest in 2019.

However, Lasmid, who was initially eager to sign the contract, later declined with the help of some acclaimed lawyers from Nigeria, whom he, Kaywa never knew.

Due to the requests made by the lawyers, the Highly Spiritual Music boss felt that they were not interested in the contract. So he had to let Lasmid go.

Back to the reason he voiced out Lasmid’s exit, Kaywa further revealed that the label has not earned any profit since its establishment, contrary to what people think.

He said, "The label has brought people out. Somebody asked me if we'd made money; no, but we have sacrificed a lot."

The music producer also clarified that most artistes who part ways with their initial record labels are poached by other labels.

"When they see the artiste rise, they contact that artiste directly, and they tell them that what the label is doing is fine, but we can do better. So, I put it on my Instagram page some time ago that, dear poacher, if you want to poach, do it better," Kaywa noted.

Although he has parted ways with most of his trained musicians, he still produces beats for them. He said he has no grudges against them and does not wish them bad in all their endeavours.
