On Wednesday, July 26, the presidential guard unit of Niger led by General Abdourahmane Tchiani staged a coup and arrested the country’s President Mohamed Bazoum.
Speaking in a televised address, Gen Tchiani said his junta took over because of several problems in Niger, including insecurity, economic woes and corruption.
He has since declared himself the new leader of Niger after the dramatic coup.
But the coup has been roundly condemned by international bodies including the African Union, West African regional bloc (ECOWAS), the EU and the UN.
Back here in Ghana, government has described the Saglemi Housing Project as a poorly thought out initiative that has failed to deliver habitable homes after 200 million dollars was sunk into it.
On the back of this, President Nana Akufo-Addo has cut sod for the contruction of a $550 million 14 thousand housing units at Pokuase and Kumasi.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony in Accra on Tuesday for works to begin on the new national affordable housing project, President Akufo-Addo said the government would have incurred more debt in an attempt to complete the Saglemi Housing Project.
But the Minority is taking on President Akufo-Addo for claiming that the abandoned Saglemi affordable housing scheme will be too costly to complete.
Again, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta during the Mid-Year Budget review presentation in Parliament on Monday, July 31 stated that government has steadfastly turning the corner in reviving the economy.
Mr Ofori-Atta said this has become possible through the progress made in non-oil tax revenue collection within 2023.
In view of this, host, Samson Lardy Anyenini and his panelist delved into the above issues and more on Newsfile this morning.
