The Director of Dispute Resolutions of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abraham Amaliba has lashed out at the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
He said the Association has abandoned its responsibilities now and is rather doing the bidding of lawyers belonging to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The former Director of Legal Affairs of NDC said GBA is now a toothless bulldog.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the 3rd Annual Lawyers Conference of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Saturday, September 2, he admonished the Association to return to its good old days.
“We need the Bar to be protective of the voiceless, the marginalised and the downtrodden, but GBA has abandoned all of these. The Bar has become a toothless bulldog.
"The President of the Bar [Yaw Acheampong Boafo] said the last time that they don’t discriminate against NDC lawyers, but I think that they discriminate in favour of NPP lawyers,” he insisted.
At the same event, former President John Dramani Mahama accused President Akufo-Addo and his government of piling the Judiciary, with judges sympathetic to his party.
Mr Mahama insisted the current government has deliberately and consciously appointed their cronies to the second arm of government.

According to him, there are about 80 such judges in the system, and the number may cross 100.
“Currently, the judiciary is packed with NPP-inclined judges because this government has carried out a deliberate policy of putting their people onto the bench.”
“He [Akufo-Addo] has appointed the biggest number of judges onto the bench, it is more than 80 towards 100 and counting. You can see what the current president has done.”
