Bournemouth forward, Antoine Semenyo, has admitted that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be tough for the Black Stars.
The 23-year-old was instrumental in Ghana securing qualification for the tournament; coming off the bench to score a winner against Angola and again coming off the bench to assist the goal against the Central African Republic that sealed Ghana’s place in the Ivory Coast tournament.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Bournemouth’s Carabao Cup match against Stoke City on Wednesday, Semenyo said: "It’s going to be tough but I am ready to embrace that challenge.”
Semenyo, born in England to a former Okwawu United player Larry, added that he is representing his family and friends when playing for Ghana.
"For my family, it is big. My dad played in Ghana years ago so it is nice to represent the family and my friends as well so it is an honour," he added.
The 34th edition of the AFCON will kick off from 13 January to 11 February 2024.
The Black Stars won the tournament four times and will hope to end Ghana's 42-year wait for a fifth title in Ivory Coast.
