Former Supreme Court Justice, Justice William Atuguba, shared his insights on several issues affecting the nation's democracy during a public lecture.
The event was organized by Solidare Ghana in collaboration with the University of Ghana and centered on the theme, "Protecting Our Democracy: The Role of the Judiciary."
Justice Atuguba addressed a wide range of democratic matters in his presentation, reflecting on the vital role of the judiciary in safeguarding and preserving democratic principles. He provided valuable perspectives on various challenges and opportunities related to democratic governance in the country.

The public lecture, held at the University of Ghana on October 24, 2023, was an opportunity for the legal luminary to engage with an audience keen on understanding the role of the judiciary in ensuring a robust democracy.
One of the highlights of the event was his strong criticism of the Supreme Court of Ghana's recent judgment in the case of the Assin North legislator, Gyakye Quayson.
"The James Gyakye Quayson's decision by the Supreme Court is with all due respect scandalous in that the court, in the teeth of the settled maxim Res Judicata et non quieta movere, re adjudicated the same matter that has been adjudicated upon by the High court on the merits," he said.
