The Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George has taken a swipe at the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu over claims that he was absent from Parliament during the vote to pass the 2024 Budget.
The Majority Leader alleged that five NDC MPs were not present at the time of the vote hence the Speaker of Parliament was playing a delay tactic to have the absentees come in and vote.
The MPs, he claimed were absent are: Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga; Korley Klottey MP, Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings; Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George; Nkoranza South MP, Emmanuel Agyekum and Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson.
However, speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, November 29, Mr George refuted the claim of being absent, adding that he was in the chamber even before the Majority Leader walked in.
“It looks like the Parliamentary Service Board would have to take care of the medical bills of Hon. Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and get him new spectacles. It appears his spectacles are defective,” he said.
According to the legislator, his name was captured in the Parliamentary votes and proceedings therefore it comes as a surprise to him that he was named absent.
“For anybody to suggest that I was not in Parliament today, then, the person must have their eyes checked and you must even begin to check their mental faculties properly,” he added.
According to him, if he indeed was not present together with the other MPs mentioned it simply gave the Majority the numbers and the upper hand hence questioning why they staged a walkout.
Touching on the debate on the budget, he said that the 2024 budget remains unapproved.
Mr George noted that “it is disgraceful for the NPP MPs to walk out on their own budget” adding that this is the second time the Majority side has done that.
