Former Ghana coach, Kwasi Appiah, says he is convinced that Black Stars can reach the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
It’s now 42 years since Ghana last won the tournament in Libya, and hope among Ghanaians is low ahead of the start of the tournament in 9 days.
Despite the four-time African champions’ poor run of recent performances, the now Sudan head coach believes the team can spring up a surprise.
“You see, sometimes when Ghanaians underrate the team that is when the team surprises Ghana. And it’s happened so many times,” Appiah told Sienu TV.
“Looking at the quality of the players, I think they can perform very well. I believe they can get to the final.”
Chris Hughton’s Black Stars are based in Kumasi preparing for the 34th edition of the AFCON set to be hosted in Ivory Coast.
Ghana is set to open their group stage campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
The Black Stars will then play against record champions Egypt in their second group match against Egypt in four days before wrapping up the group face against Mozambique on January 22.
