The leader of the Movement For Change, Alan Kyerematen, has once again criticised Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for trying to dissociate himself from the government's failures.
Mr Kyerematen stressed that as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Bawumia cannot distance himself from the current economic challenges, as such attempts would be futile.
The former Trade Minister asserted that Dr. Bawumia is an integral part of the cabinet's decision-making process, hence cannot evade responsibility for the country's difficulties.
During an interview with Citi TV on Wednesday, February 7, Mr. Kyerematen added that President Akufo-Addo had given Dr. Bawumia ample opportunities to implement his ideas and visions for the nation.
“This theory that if you are vice president you don’t have the leverage to do anything, that is not true. In the case of late former President J.E Mills, he literally gave everything to then vice president Mahama, every opportunity to lead processes. It is the same thing, President Akufo-Addo has also given the vice president [Dr Bawumia] every opportunity to lead processes of governance.”
However, he acknowledged his involvement in the mismanagement of the economy during his tenure as Trade Minister until his resignation in September 2023, when he parted ways with the New Patriotic Party.
The former Trade and Industry Minister emphasised the significance of his capacity as a change agent, notwithstanding his role in the economic challenges.
“There’s no doubt about that, how is it even possible to deny that you have been a minister and say that you are not part of a system?
"But that is not the case, you are talking about being a minister, governments are not run by ministers. It’s about the executive authority at the highest level. You provide the direction as a minister," he admitted.
