Former Ghana international Asamoah Gyan, has been named on the Manifesto Committee of the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer for the 2024 election, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Gyan, Ghana's all-time top scorer, has agreed to serve as the lead for the "Youth and Sports" manifesto sub-committee.
Gyan will join twenty-three others to undertake what the NPP says is "a holistic review of the party’s 2016 and 2020 manifestos to come up with a pragmatic 2024 manifesto."
By engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and involving sector ministers, who will serve as advisors, the committee’s objective is to create a forward-looking and pragmatic manifesto that resonates with the needs of the Ghanaian populace.
Earlier on Wednesday, February 21, Gyan shared a cryptic message on his X (formerly Twitter) page that has now been given meaning by tonight's appointment.

Gyan is now expected to play an active role in communicating the sports aspect of Dr Bawumia's manifesto when complete.
The party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who has appointed the outgoing Majority Leader in parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu as the Chairman of the Committee, also named Kojo Oppong Nkrumah as the Vice-Chairman.
Evron Hughes will serve as the Secretary, whereas Prof. Kwaku Appiah Adu and Dr Isaac Owusu Mensah will act as the Manifesto Committee Coordinators.
The committee has been tasked to carry out a thorough review of the party’s previous manifestos from the 2016 and 2020 elections.
