The 2024 flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has asserted that an aggressive campaign strategy, involving direct engagement with voters, is key to breaking the cycle of eight years in power.
Addressing attendees at the "It is Possible Mega Easter Walk and Mini Rally" in Kwahu on Saturday, March 30, Vice President Bawumia reiterated his commitment to serve tirelessly if elected as President.
He emphasised the need for proactive campaigning, distinguishing his approach from that of his opponent, John Mahama, by rejecting the notion of a post-election honeymoon period.
Bawumia expressed his intention to seek re-election in 2028 after serving his first term in office.
Encouraging vigorous campaigning, he stressed the significance of grassroots engagement, advocating for direct interaction with voters to communicate the achievements of the NPP government.
“Unlike Mahama, he wants a honeymoon after being elected, he won’t come back again so he won’t mind you. As for me, I’ll come back in 2028 so I would ensure I do my best for you all. So everyone must campaign very well as stated earlier. Today, we are going door to door, house to house to campaign to bring victory. It is possible, we are going to break the eight.”
He further tackled issues surrounding excavator burning and national service, affirming that the party's focus lies in implementing impactful policies rather than resorting to burning equipment used by illegal miners.
Dr Bawumia stressed that under his governance, National Service will no longer be obligatory, granting individuals who secure employment upon graduation the option to bypass the service requirement.
“National Service is no longer going to be mandatory. If you complete school and you get a job, go for it, you don’t need national service."
