The spokesperson for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye says the 2024 flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will focus on special needs education.
According to him, Dr Bawumia is keen on improving the quality of education for people with special needs.
Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, April 9, Mr Aboagye clarified that Dr Bawumia will ensure the recruitment of one thousand special education teachers and re-train teachers on how to work with special needs students.
“Under Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, we will train more speech and language therapists and occupational and behavioural therapists to take care of the vulnerable and those with special needs."
He emphasised that these individuals suffer without assistance, always requiring support from others, and that they function better when surrounded by helpful individuals.
“Go to our hospitals; when our special needs citizens go there, how do they communicate and engage with the doctors? Ideally, every hospital and public space should have a special needs therapist to support them, providing sign language assistance to our citizens, our brothers and sisters with special needs,” he added.
Mr Aboagye further stated that Dr Bawumia's government will expand infrastructure at the medical school and the Ghana School of Law to facilitate and increase admission for students for medical and legal studies.
