A 28-year-old cyclist, James Kumbeni, a resident of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, is embarking on an 815 km ride from Bolgatanga to Accra.
Kumbeni who works as an ICT Teacher at Fountain Gate School in Bolgatanga, is using the cycling expedition to raise awareness on Green Transportation and Cyclists’ Safety.

He started his journey in the Morning of April 8, 2024, and plans to complete it by April 12, a period of four days.
He is also using the opportunity to support Joel Atinga Nsobilla, another native of Bolgatanga who is set to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Barbecue Marathon.

Nsobilla will begin his Guinness World Record attempt on April 11 in Accra and Kumbeni hopes to arrive in Accra by April 12 to show his support.
James Kumbeni is a native of Baare in the Talensi district and a member of a Bolgatanga-based cycling club known as the KeeKee Cycling Connect.
His 815 km cross-country cycling journey to Accra is dubbed; “Ride for Clean Air and Safe Cycling”, emphasising his passion for emission-free transportation and his advocacy for bicycles as an alternative means of transport to help reduce Ghana’s carbon footprint.
Before departing Bolgatanga on Monday, Kumbeni told journalists; “Carbon emissions from vehicles destroy the quality of the air we breathe. This leads to global warming and climate change.

"Therefore, my ride from Bolga to Accra is to promote cycling as a means or alternative means of transport in Ghana and the world. This way, we can save our planet from global warming and climate change”.
James Kumbeni is supported by some of his friends who are travelling alongside him in a private car.
A few sponsors including Happy Man Bitters, AquaBolg Mineral Water, and Eye of God Pharmacy have come onboard to give him support.

He arrived in Techiman in the Bono East Region, on the morning of Wednesday, April 10, covering 429.7 km, and plans to get to Kumasi by sunset.
James Kumbeni in January this year, rode from Bolgatanga to Tamale, a distance of 163 km to support Failatu Abdul Razak's Cook-a-thon Guinness World Record attempt.
