The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Director of Communications has criticised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for what he says are efforts to undermine government's recently launched Performance Tracker.
According to Richard Ahiagbah, the NDC is resolute in its endeavours to obstruct government's progress, showing no signs of relenting in its quest.
The Tracker, unveiled on Wednesday, April 10, aims to enhance transparency and accountability in the execution of infrastructure projects across the nation.
However, on Friday, April 12, government admitted to the inclusion of 67 erroneous entries in the list of projects initially displayed on the tracker during its launch, sparking criticism, particularly from the opposition NDC.
In response to the criticism, Mr Ahiagbah defended government's integrity, commending its honesty in acknowledging and rectifying the error.
He emphasised that only an honest government would openly admit to a mistake and take corrective action, underscoring the commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
Regarding the performance tracker itself, Mr Ahiagbah hailed it as an indigenous initiative spearheaded by the government.
He expressed confidence that the tracker would prove to be instrumental in promoting accountability and showcasing the government's development achievements.
Mr Ahiagbah thus dismissed the NDC's attempts to downplay the significance of the tracker, asserting that they would ultimately fail in their endeavour.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM on Friday, April 12, Ahiagbah reiterated his support for government's efforts, emphasising the importance of embracing innovative solutions to address societal challenges.
“…I think that this is an ingenious initiative by the party, no government has done this. We have done this in full disclosure to our citizens to say that you gave us the mandate, we used that mandate and this is what we have done with it.
"Take a look and we are accounting fully to you...and I think that it is an exceptional happening...and the NDC’s effort to jump on it is not going to materialise,” he said.
