Musician Okyeame Kwame has disclosed that feigning youthfulness has been the key to his longevity in the music industry.
According to the rapper, who has spent nearly three decades in Ghana's music industry, despite his extensive experience, he prefers to maintain an innocent mindset.
This approach allows him to approach his work with a fresh perspective and seize new opportunities, Okyeame Kwame said in an interview with Lexis Bill on Joy FM’s Drive Time.
He stated that when asked how he has kept up in the industry, his answer has always been; “I pretend I am young. I go back to being naive and I go back to a fresh start. I go to the gym to be young and feel young in my body. I work with young people and I take advice from young people."
Additionally, the Rap Dacta made changes to the team he works with, ensuring he is surrounded by younger people, who he says inspire him.
They provide insight into his projects, what would work in the ever-changing times and what will not work for him as an artiste, Okyeame Kwame said.
“I sacked the old people in my team and replaced them with 20-year-olds, and I listen to them. I watch them beat me around here and there. so I listen to all that, they inspire me,” he noted.
Okyeame Kwame is one of the artiste from the early 2000s who is still active as an artiste. Over the years he has earned many accolades.
He is in his late 40s and has been doing music for the past 26 years.
This year, in the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) race, Okyeame Kwame’s song Insha Allah featuring King Paluta has been nominated.
The song earned him a nod in the Hiplife Song of the Year category. He is up strongly against younger acts such as King Paluta, Jay Bahd and Oseikrom Sikani.
The competition does not faze Okyeame Kwame.
In an earlier interview with Graphic Showbiz, he revealed that he is rather working hard to, once again, grab the topmost prize, Artiste of the Year, which he won 15 years ago in 2009.
“It feels really great to be nominated even in my 26th year in music and that tells me that people appreciate what I’m doing. That is not to say that I would have been bothered if I missed out but it encourages me to do more.”
“Besides, it is the more reason why I’m working hard to win the ultimate Artiste of the Year award again. It’s a must for me so I need to change the narrative by dropping a massive album, hopefully, this year. I will put in more work to achieve the goal,” he said.
