The 2024 flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, has reiterated his pledge to prevent the nurses trainee allowances from piling up.
Speaking to trainee nurses in the Savannah Region, Dr Bawumia reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring the prompt disbursement of these allowances.
Addressing a gathering of the trainees, Dr Bawumia emphasised his commitment to ensuring that their allowances are allocated promptly.
The Vice President assured the audience that steps would be taken to prevent any delays in the future.
Dr Bawumia's reassurance comes as a response to concerns raised by trainees regarding the irregularity of their allowances.
By promising to address these issues, he aims to alleviate the financial burden faced by trainees and support their education and training endeavours.
“For us, we restored the allowance. For other people, they cancelled it. And we are going to keep working hard. And I am going to keep my eyes on your 'alawa' so that we can make sure that it is regular and comes. You will be assured of that. I am going to keep my eye on it. We are going to change this country," he said.
Meanwhile, the Vice President says the Ministry of Finance has approved a sum of one hundred and seventy-seven million Ghana cedis (GH¢177million) to be disbursed to trainee nurses across Ghana.
This is to ensure that all outstanding debt owed to the trainees are cleared by the end of this week.
“This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nurses trainee allowances.
"So I have also alerted Dr Okoe-Boye to be on standby. When the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nurses trainees so that they will have their 'alawa'. It will drop,” he assured.
