The Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Major General Mathew Essien, has emphasised the vital role of the media in modern warfare.
He highlighted that success on the battlefield alone is insufficient without winning the media war.

Major General Essien made these remarks during the opening of the Multi-Domain Operations and Future Wars course 45 (MDOC) at the college on May 29, 2024, at Teshie in Accra.
"Modern warfare has become sophisticated in a way that winning on the battlefield alone, without winning the media war, is problematic," Major General Essien stated.
He urged the 128 participants, including 98 senior officers from over 15 African countries, to integrate media considerations into their military strategies.
He underscored the prominence of media warfare in modern conflicts, citing the influence of media on public perception in the ongoing conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, and Israel and Hamas.

He also emphasized the significance of cyber warfare in military estimates for future wars.
"Every estimate you make must consider cyber and media aspects, not just the traditional domains of land, sea, and air," Major General Essien advised.
He stressed the importance of adapting to the Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) approach, which integrates cyber and space domains alongside traditional ones.
The course aims to enhance participants' understanding of MDOs, their significance in modern warfare, and the contributions of various military capabilities.

It will also explore emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, and hypersonic weapons, preparing participants for future conflicts.
Participants expressed optimism that the course would deepen their understanding of Multi-Domain Operations in modern warfare.
