An accident on the Somanya road in the Eastern Region has left one person dead and seven others severely injured.
The accident occurred around 5:00 pm on Tuesday in the Akorley community near Somanya.
The tragic incident involved a Hyundai H100 with registration number GG 4311-15, which somersaulted multiple times after hitting a pothole and bursting a tyre.
The vehicle eventually landed in a nearby stream, resulting in one immediate fatality and critically injuring seven others.
The injured victims were rushed to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the morgue for further procedures.
This recent crash marks the fourth fatal accident in the Somanya area within the last two months. This period has been particularly deadly, with multiple accidents claiming several lives, including two female teachers from the Yilo Krobo Senior High School.
The frequency of these accidents has raised significant concerns about road safety in the region.
The local authorities are being urged to address the hazardous conditions that have contributed to these tragic incidents.
Ghana has recorded a total of 4,503 road crashes in the first quarter of this year alone, resulting in 829 deaths and 4,955 injuries.
